We’ll make all the arrangements movers, handy man whatever it takes to make your move as smooth as possible. Here are a few helpful moving tips that can make any move feel better.

• Get the Bed Ready
  

  Designate one drawer of a dresser for sheets and towels so that you won't have to rummage through boxes for these essentials the first night in your new home.

• Keep the Phone Book
  

  Take your current phone book with you. You may need to make calls to residents or businesses back in your former hometown.

• Protect Your Memories
  

  If it's irreplaceable, we pack it in watertight, crush proof plastic containers. The one thing you can not recover from is water damage! In many cases items like photographs and albums may not be unpacked for months or even years.(you don't want regrets later).
  

• Remember the Bare Necessities
  

  Toilet paper, telephone, toiletries, snacks, coffee (and pot), soap, flashlight, screwdriver, pliers, can opener, paper plates, cups, utensils, a couple of pans, paper towels, and cleaning supplies are some of the essentials you may need upon arrival at your new home. We like to pack a box with these types of items and load it last so that it will be unloaded first making your first night in a new home that much more comfortable.

Our homes are not only important to us, sometimes they our last hold on independence. Most of us could stay in our homes much longer with a bit of planning and minor consistant modifications. Who doesn't want to make this a reality?

While we are still in healthy and active is a great time to modify our homes for ageing in place. This means, in part, making sure the doorways are wide enough for walkers and wheelchairs. How about bathrooms? Small modifications that allow a "seated" person or a wheelchair user to be able to roll up at a sink and wash their hands. Clearly a counter without a vanity or pedistal is the answer here. How about a video veiw of the front door for security and a door release button to allow approved access without having to go the the door yourself. Adjustable lighting is quick and easy to update providing the home owner the abiltiy to not only save energy but eleminate shadows that could lead to a fall. Though not always a pleasant thought, the creation of a plan of action can reward you with years of independent "SAFE" living. A little planning now can yeild years of comfortable living as the reward!
